Avala Tower

avalaAvala is a mountain in Serbia, located 16 kilometers south-east of Belgrade. It stands at 511 metres above sea level and provides a great panoramic view to Belgrade, Vojvodina and Šumadija, as the surrounding area on all sides is mostly a lowlands.

The Avala Tower is 204.5 m tall and its legs form a tripod, the symbol of Serbian tripod chair. The tower was destroyed in NATO bombardment of Serbia on 29 April 1999. On 21 December 2006, the reconstruction of Avala Tower commenced and the tower was officially opened at a ceremony on 21 April 2010. It is currently the tallest tower in Serbia and the Balkan region.
